A Colorado native, Chef Hewitt’s culinary passion was passed down through multiple family generations. A career in the culinary industry attracted him to the Bay Area, where he worked in kitchens while studying Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management at City College. Chef Hewitt joined The Barrel Room in April 2014, opening the current location with Sarah Trubnick in April 2015.
Chef Hewitt brings his skill with a diverse array of cuisines to the rotating regional menus at The Barrel Room. Hewitt’s education and experience lend to the creativity and inspiration of each of his unique menus.
Sarah left her previous fields of Electrical Engineering and Physics (BS and MS, UCLA), opting to pursue a career following her passion for wine. After attending the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, she gained sommelier and retail experience in New York City. A subsequent year and a half of vintage work in Bordeaux, Italy, and Australia followed. Sarah founded The Barrel Room in 2011 and has served as Wine Director since.
The Barrel Room’s wine lists have received numerous accolades including Best of the Award of Excellence (Wine Spectator 2016-2019) and Best Wine List along with a 3 Star rating (World of Fine Wines, 2018).
